Junior golf coaching gets over-technical fast. The best coaches keep it simple, measure the right things, and get juniors on the course early.
The right priority order
- Grip, posture and alignment — everything else compounds if these are wrong
- Short game — putting and chipping — because that's where handicaps actually fall
- Full swing — but only once the setup is stable
- On-course play — because game management is a skill you can't learn on a range mat
Launch monitors are useful, up to a point
Trackman and GC3 data helps a coach spot a fault a junior can't feel. But data-heavy sessions with no on-course transfer are the classic modern-coaching failure mode. Ask about the ratio.
Coaches who work
- PGA-qualified, with junior coaching experience specifically
- Access to a driving range with junior-friendly bays and short-game area
- Willing to do on-course sessions from age 10+
Golf coaching prices in the UK typically sit at £45–£80/hour for private tuition.
