CoachSpot only awards its blue verification tick once we've reviewed each coach's identity, DBS and sport-specific safeguarding documents. This page explains exactly what we check, so parents know what the tick means.
Universal baseline — every coach
Enhanced DBS check WITH a Children's Barred List check — not a basic or standard DBS. Under UK government guidance, anyone coaching children more than 3 days in any 30-day period, or running any overnight session with a contact opportunity, is in regulated activity and requires this level of check.
Every coach on CoachSpot — regardless of sport — must hold an in-date Enhanced DBS with the Barred List check before we award verification. Coaches whose DBS expires are asked to renew before the tick is reinstated.
On top of the DBS, every coach must also hold the safeguarding certificate appropriate to their sport(s). See the tabs above for each sport's specific requirement.
How verification works
When a coach joins CoachSpot, they upload their DBS certificate and their sport-specific safeguarding certificate. A CoachSpot admin reviews these documents against the requirements on this page before awarding the blue verification tick on the coach's profile. Certificates that expire, or coaches who fail to renew, lose the tick until updated documents are provided.
