How Much Should Private Sports Coaching Cost in the UK?

18 April 2026

Private 1-to-1 coaching prices in the UK cluster more tightly than most parents expect. Here's what "normal" actually looks like in 2026.

Typical hourly rates by sport

  • Football: £35–£60/hour
  • Rugby: £40–£70/hour
  • Cricket: £35–£65/hour
  • Tennis: £40–£70/hour
  • Golf: £45–£80/hour
  • Athletics: £35–£65/hour
  • Swimming: £30–£60/hour (plus pool hire in some venues)
  • Martial Arts: £30–£70/hour depending on discipline

What pushes a coach to the top of the range?

  • Academy or international coaching background
  • Specialist expertise (a keeper coach for keepers, a spin bowling coach for spinners)
  • Access to a private facility saving you a venue fee
  • Published outcomes — players placed in academies, ranking movements, PBs

What sensibly sits lower?

Newer coaches building a client base, block-of-5 or block-of-10 bookings, and off-peak weekday slots. All can be excellent value — just check the qualifications and DBS status haven't been trimmed to hit the price.

London and Home Counties premium

Expect a £5–£15/hour uplift in London and the M25 corridor vs. equivalent coaches in the North East, Midlands or Wales. Facility costs are the main driver.
